How often do you wash yours?

... Brushes that is.

Were all aware of the importance of washing our make up brushes. Bacteria builds on our brushes and then transfers to our skin upon use, which can lead to infections or breakouts. But just how many of us actually have a routine when it comes to keeping our brushes clean?

I have to admit when it comes to washing my brushes, I am really lazy. Its not my most favourite job in the world and I do tend to put it off quite a lot. Ideally I would like to get into a nice routine of washing my main ones every other day.

Do you have a strict routine where washing your brushes is concerned?

  1. I wash them at least once a week, sometimes more often if I feel I need to ;)

  3. hmm...well i reckon i end up doing it every few days, for no other reason than i dont keep that many brushes so i have to wash them to get rid of a colour i don't want to mix in with the new colours im using.

  5. In my mind I like to think I'm very good but in reality it's a totally different story.

What I have started to do recently is use them and them clean them in the evening with a cleansing wipe so that they're ready for use the next day.

I TRY to wash them once a week but it's more like twice a month.

  6. I wash them after every use and they're dry by the next day. It's not even a fear of breakout (I have a dry/dehydrated skin) but I consider I can't make a great job with dirty brushes and it's a minimum of hygiene to me. I suppose I get this habit from when I was an art student and I was washing my paint brushes and various tools after every daily use.

  9. I'm pretty lazy, I clean them when I used them a lot and when I can see that they're dirty. But usually I don't use them every day (well besides my powder one I guess) so then I clean them less often >.>

  12. I used to wash them nightly, but now I only do that with brushes that apply cream products - but even then I can be a bit lazy and will just try to wipe them off really well.

I clean my brushes that only come into contact with powder products about once a week on average, I guess it depends on how lazy I am because I wipe them off realllllly well between uses.

I totally went and washed my brushes after reading this >_> I feel gross for being so lazy

  13. I have heard from makeup artists that you only need to wash daily if you do makeup on different people. If it is your personal makeup, you don't have to wash more than once a week. Washing too often can actually shorten the life of your brushes.

  14. I use the ELF brush cleaner after every use, I'm not a fan of how it smells but it does the job. I try to deep clean them once a week. xx

  17. I'm such a hygiene freak! If I wear liquid foundation, I'll wash the brush the same day and if I'm using a powder brush or a blusher brush, I wash it every day =). XO

  21. I agree! I wish I could get in a routine of washing them more often. My face would probably love it and not break out as much! Maybe I'll get that routine going for the summer! :)

    Great blog!
