Ok... I have a problem.

Yep Ladies... I have a problem. Ok, its not a biggie, but its still a problem and its concerning these babies pictured below.

My nails. So what started out as me sticking a false nail on a nail that I broke so badly it was bleeding, has resulted on me eventually ending up with TWO full hands of false nails :(

Grab your coffee get the voilins out and I'll explain how this alllll began.

Its all began a fair few weeks ago... (ha... that sounds like the beginning of one of my Antons stories at school) I broke one of my nails, to the point that it was literally not a nail anymore, it was bleeding, painfull and it just looked a mess. So I came up with the idea that I'd just stick a false nail over it, while it healed and then I wouldn't have to cut the rest of my nails down to match. So it was all good... I just had one false nail on, no one really noticed and I was still able to have pretty looking nails and paint them.  But then I got into a mess :( each time another nail broke, the false ones were just there staring at me! so I thought "oh might aswell stick one of them on again" I wouldn't mind... but if Im honest none of the others even broke that bad, they would have grew back within a week, but no... stupid me goes and keeps putting a false one on each time one of my own broke. Before I knew it Ive ended up with 2 full hands :(

So wheres the problem Jo? Plenty of women wear false nails. Well the problem is.... Im addicted to them! I like them better than my own nails ffs! I tried last week to take them off, got it into my head "Im gunna grow my own again... want my own nails!" even bought some stuff that a few Ladies on Twitter recommended to help them grown and get strong, but I just couldn't stand it. I was longing to paint them and have pretty nails again. I was embarrased everytime I was paying for Items at a shop or something, I felt like a man in disguise with my stubs for nails :( so I put the false ones back on again.

So where do I go from here? I don't want to wear false nails for the rest of my days, the glue is totally wrecking my own nails :( Im up shit street basically ha!

Oh by the way... the polish above is Barry M's new one. Can't decided if I like it though or if it just makes my hands look dead. Oh and I payed for my falsies with my own moola BUT I do actually have some Nailene ones winging their way to me as we speak, for review purposes haha. Its never gunna end.... Im gunna be false for life!

  1. Why not get some more permanent extensions - like gel or acrylic? If you go to a good technician, they shouldn't end up looking chunky or anything x

  2. How comes you like them better than your own, hun? Don't you miss the satisfaction of looking down at your own nicely painted nails that you grew yourself? I know you must do! I know it's a shit struggle but you'll get there - you know how long mine are, well think of all the times I've broken one really low down and had to cut my wonderfully long talons down to match? Honestly they don't take THAT long to grow!
I just looked through your older NOTD posts and your natural nails were lovely - the thing about your falsies is that you can really tell they're false 'cause they're a tiny bit too wide for your fingers :(
We're all rooting for you, get those falsies off and grow your own back! :D
If you're not careful we're gonna have to send you to falsie rehab ;P
    Good luck xo

  3. @ Lucy - I just dont want to take that big step and actually go to a slaon because then I know I'll never stop and they will wrcek my own nails even more :(

@ Leanne - Aww babe.. thanks for your support. I do miss my own soooo much, I was so proud of them :( especially after being nail biter for so many years. Im ust useless arnt I, I need to get it into my head to just stick to it, it should only take around 3 weeks for them to grow to a nice length. Gareth banned me from putting the false ones on last week aswell lol and I went against him, because I just so wanted to paint then. I get so much enjoyment from painting them, its just my own little thing I do when the kids are in bed and I get time to myself.

Once the nailene ones have arrived and Ive reviewed them, Im gunna do it Lee, promise! Its made me want to do it all the more now I have some more support.

  5. Oh.. I was put of falsies by the damaged they did when I had a similar situation to yours. They completely ripped my natural nail off and it took a good few months to recover. I just had to sit it out. Was horrible :( Emma x

  6. Can't you just paint them a pretty pale pink while they're short, that way its not too bright to draw attention to them if you don't like them, but its pretty and girly enough to make you feel theyre less like mens stubs or whatever you called them! lol

I think as long as theyre filed nicely, manicured and pretty it wont matter too much that theyre short.. You gotta start somewhere afterall!

Mine arent v long, they only grow to a certain length anyway, but a few weeks ago I broke about 4 in one week, I ended up filing them down and starting again.. Not very pretty I know, but what can you do!

Youre gorgeous anyway so I v much doubt short nails will impact that much on your appearance!

    :)

  7. I no exactly what you mean...I am a nail technician and have had my Gel nails on for many years now...without any problems (i do my own). What you really need to do is get them done professionally and then you will be able to grow your own nails underneath within quite a short space of time..depending on how long you want them. Then you can choose to have them took off or carry on having them done. I use gel which isnt so hard on your nails as acrylic....but its best if you ask some of your friends where they have them done or do some research...then got for it....i couldnt be without my nails ans all my gorgeous nails inc polish...good luck xxmartinexxxxx

  8. Apparently it's poor application and product that causes the damage - it's not a "given" that acrylics knacker your nails but that's always been my experience.

What about a natural nail overlay - a thin layer of gel over your natural nail. Your nails are stronger but there's not as much "work" as getting a full set?

  9. My nails are a stubby horrid mess as well! Spent a month growing them and pampering them and in the space of a week they all one by one started spliting and breaking! Damn you nails! :(

I got addicted to false nails a few years ago so I know exactly how you feel. I had to ween myself off them! lol Now they only come out for special occassions!

  10. ohh i am so anti fake nails. my horror story is, i got professional acrylic nails done before christmas and they damaged my nails so badly that they literally dented each one of my nails. i still have a small dent in my thumbnail actually. my cuticles and the skin around my nails went repulsive from the way the manicurist treated my nails, they still look terrible and i have no idea how to fix them...
but back to you, i think false nails look like what they are; FAKE.
i think its wayy better to have short nails for awhile while you grow beautiful natural ones. just think of how worthwhile it will be in the longwhile. and if painting your nails is your own little thing, maybe focus on your toes while youre growing out your fingers :)
    you can do it!

  11. I noticed you said above you used to be a nail biter - I bite mine and would really love to have pretty nails to paint. How did you manage to stop? I stopped for ages when I had gel extensions, which I loved, and my real nails grew under them so I let the extensions come off. Sadly, my real nails were so weak they just split and I'm back to biting now :(
Would love any advice tips on how to actually stop for good! From anyone who wants to chip in! :) x

  12. Wow... thank you all so so much for taking the time to comment and offer your support and advice, Im so touched.

@ Little Miss H - The only thing that stopped me for good, was nothing but will power. I contuniously looked at people nails on blogs etc and thats all I wanted... lovely lady like nails. I got it into my head at how disgusting they looked and everytime I went to bite them, I actually did end up feeling disgusted.

  14. ohhhh god i used to have the same exact problem! I used to have a nail biting problem, maybe 3 years ago? I dont even know where it came from but my nails looked uggggly. It made me so self conscious, so one day I used fake nails and I was hooked! the glue started making my nails really... unsmooth, short, and really unbearable to look at unless I had fake nails on -_- now, after a difficult year or so, my nails are long, healthy, and natural.

I recommend that you take the fake nails off, buff the glue and rough nail bed with a buffing sponge and put vaseline on the nail bed and cuticles every day (overnight too, you'll see amazing results in the morning). OR go to a nail salon and get a manicure (they'll buff your nails smooth with an electronic buffer) and clean your nails up (a good place will also give you a hand massage :) for about $12!) I know the process will be painful to bear (I would know) but honestly, it'll be SO worth it. Don't let this obsession get worse :( I really hope you are successful! Let us know how you do :)

  15. Are you removing the false nails properly? As you shouldn't really be experiencing a lot of damage if you are. Make sure you soak them off fully in pura acetone and don't pull, pick or bite them of!

  16. Grow your own! :D At the moment, I have four short nails and the easiest solution is to file them all down to one length so they don't look stupid, but i'm proud of the long ones haha. I'm not a great fan of falsies I must say, plus it won't take long to grow them back, a month maybe?

  18. From what I remember of your old NOTD posts, your natural nails looked absoutely fine. I'm sure after a few days of not wearing false ones you'll get used to the shorter length again. And that lavender shade looks lovely x

  21. the false ones look lovely and if they make you happy so what? I'd just keep using them

  22. I think falsies are fine in short bursts :) but they look a little awkward on your fingers, something about them is too wide, I think it's because you have slender fingers maybe. Hmm can't put my finger on it.. no pun intended :)

  23. I got that polish last week and I know exactly what you mean about the colour! I applied it at night and it looked great but I was less sure in daylight. Lol!

I hope you don't mind but I'm sending you a sweet blog award. Post is on my blog - http://modestybrown.blogspot.com/
