Fitflop Tall FF Superboot (Suede)
Yep - I have some serious boot love going on. Not only are the Fitflop Superboots stylish and so comfortable but they also give me a work out when I walk! Now for a girl like me, these boots are a god send. I don't work out much, I wish I did but sadly I just don't have the time to make it to the gym anymore, not since Harvey was born. So when something offers to tone while just doing something I do every single day, which is walk - then I'm interested!
If you're not familiar with fitflops range of footwear and the concept behind them then the information below explains everything.
FitFlop footwear is biomechanically engineered to help tone and tighten your leg muscles while you walk in them. Studies at the Centre for Human Performance at London South Bank University (LSBU) show that normal walking in FitFlop sandals* can help:
- help increase leg and bottom muscle activity (up to 30%). (so you feel less ache in your hips and knees),
- absorb more shock than a normal shoe (up to 22%),
- help realign ground force reaction closer to your joints,
- reduce foot pressure.
FitFlop footwear features patent- pending muscle-loading Microwobbleboard™ technology and was independently tested at Salford University in Manchester by Dr Philip Graham Smith & Richard Jones to verify their pro-muscle activity prior to launch. (FitFlop has also been approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association - APMA.
When I first heard about Fitflops, I assumed it was only sandals they produced, but in fact they have sandals, shoes, cloggs, slippers and Boots. All of which have the same toning insoles.
The Superboots is available is short and tall, with the tall version being the pair I have. They're not cheap with the tall ones costing £150 and the short ones costing £100, but where shoes are concerned I do think paying for quality is worth it.
When I wore the boots for the first time I found them to be a little stiff, but after a couple of days they soon relaxed and softened and fit perfectly. It seemed to be like a little breaking in period. They are a pull on style and look just perfect teamed with a pair of leggings or skinny jeans, for a smart but casual look. What I was most surprised about is how comfy they are. I somehow had a misconception that the microwobble board might make them a bit uncomfy but I was so wrong. The fully cushioned soles offers fantastic support for the feet as well as being super comfortable. They are also really really warm. I haven't been wearing socks with mine and my feet have stayed toasty warm.
So do they increase my leg and bum activity?
Hell yeah! They are seriously amazing. The longest journey Ive been on while wearing them was when I walked to and back from town just before Christmas, which is about 6 miles (its nearly killed me by the way - but thats a whole different story) as I wanted to see if they worked basically, I wanted to see if my bum and legs would feel like they'd had a work out or not. By the time I got home, I could so feel the aching in my calves and bum. The walking trip that nearly killed me was so worth it. Its not just long journeys that I benefit from though, even with wearing them day to day and trawling round the shops etc, I can feel a slight ache in my muscles. They are also encouraging me to walk a lot more, instead of just jumping in my car.
Im not under any illusion that Im going to end up with a bum that could give J.Lo a run for her money, but they are definitely going to help tone and give my legs and bum a nice subtle workout, whilst going about my day to day activities.
The full range of Fitflop footwear can be found on the
