Botox - Have you? Would you?

I have a fear of aging and always have done. Im definitely not one of them women that are going to age gracefully and let nature take its course, hence the reason I already spend a fortune on skincare products aimed at preventing the signs of aging. The thought of deep set wrinkles on my face makes me shudder. I don't live under a rock though, I know Im going to age, I know the wrinkles are going to appear but that doesn't mean I can do nothing about them, not when there's a treatment offering to temporarily reduce or eliminate frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet etc, which is Botox.

If you're not too familiar with Botox and what the procedure is etc, its basically a non surgical treatment that smooths line and wrinkles. The treatment is fast and effective, which results showing in 3-5 days. The effects then go on to last 3-5 months before a top up is needed. Giving just enough time to save up for another treatment!

I've always been interested in Botox and it is something I would like to try in the future. Hopefully all the potion and lotion I use will prevent me from needing it within the next few years, but it is a treatment and Im interested in and could see myself having. Although its not cheap with prices for Botox at The Hospital Group varying, depending on how many session are needed and what area of the face and how many injections it takes etc, but I personally think its worth it. Maybe some would say I am image conscious, but aging is really a fear that I have and if money permits in the future, then its definitely an area I will explore. There are a lot of before and after pictures on the net and they really do speak for themselves.

So how do you feel about Botox? Have you had the procedure done previously? Would you consider having it done?

  1. I would definitely consider having it done, but probably not until I'm in my 40's or 50's.

  2. At the moment, I don't ever plan to have Botox. Don't get me wrong, as soon as I start to see wrinkles I'll be piling on the cream and I already do as much as I can now to keep my skin looking great. But who knows, I may change my mind in the future.

  5. In my opinion people who have had it done don't look younger, they look like older people who have had botox therefore I don't really see the point. It also seems to me that people tend to get carried away with it getting more and more with each miniscule line that appears hence enhancing that "I only have one facial expression and this is it!" look. Frozen face does not = youth in my mind but each to their own! xx

  6. I completely agree with everyone else.

I would definitely be tempted to have it done when I need it. Money permitting of course. The results are amazing :)

  7. You know, I'm a firm advocate of "everything in moderation". Hence, if I ever need botox in the future (or its successor) I'd definitely go for it. But you know, just have to be careful. I really don't want that FROZEN FACE look...

    Have a great one! x NTA @ blogspot.com

  10. I'm paranoid about ageing, but no, I wouldn't do it - I'm more scared of that weird waxy look that so many people have when they are botoxed. And you can always tell - even when it's a good job.

  11. i've read a story by a woman who tried it out for a magazine. she only wanted to get her problem areas treated so it would look natural. they treated the wrinkle between her eyes and guess what... it looked plain weird. she couldn't move the part right above her eyebrows so if she frowned only the top part of her forehead did. if she had gone for the full treatment, she wouldn't have been able to frown at all.

in my opinion, ageing gracefully has nothing to do with trying to look younger than you are. it means taking care of yourself and making the best of what you have, whilst accepting that your face and body change.it saddens me to see the lengths people are going to turn their face or body into something it is not. my mother has wrinkles and everything, but just because she doesn't try to hide them or doesn't panic about them, she looks great. her wrinkles suit her very well. in my opinion, true beauty is knowing what works for you and the face you have, instead of what works for the face you could have if you used tons of cream and plastic surgery.

  12. You've inspired me into a confession. I've been having Botox for the last few years, you need to pick a doctor very carefully, but for me the results have been amazing.

  13. I have had it and if its done right no one even notices that anythings been done but you notice and you feel so much more confident as a result. The frozen faces you see are people becoming a bit obsessed which is easy to do but if its done correctly by a good estetic doctor then its fantastic only problem is that it costs a lot other than that is fantastic and the injections are so minor

  14. NO.

I respect everyones choices about getting botox, but personally I believe you should accept yourself. Besides, if you take good care of your skin, you should have very minimal ageing anyway. My mother is not far off 50 and her skin looks like the average 25-30 year old's as she looked after it extremely well and still does. I believe most of the time botox looks extremely fake and to be honest quite disgusting. Fake is never beautiful, hate to say it ladies! But I do respect the choices of others, it is your body after all.

  15. I'm posting "anon" for obvious reasons....

There was a time when I would have said, "OMG! NO WAY! That stuff is toxic!! Are you crazy?" and then I got older and my face showed it. People stopped mistaking me for 20-something, and were guessing my age correctly at 40-ish. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I finally broke down and went to a medispa to have a 'professional' do it just to my forehead, and just once, so I could get facials and peels to rejuvenate my skin. I had to go back twice, and the nurse never got it right. I had everyone's worst nightmare: a botched botox job. I looked like a Klingon.

What I DID notice was that the nurse looked 23 or 24! I was in awe of her beautiful, youthful skin. I asked (nosy) and she did her own botox. She was the same age as me. I just about died.

I went home and on a whim started researching "DIY" and before you knew it, I was on a self-education path and I ended up learning to do my own botox injections, which I still do routinely. Just to be clear: I DO have medical training in my background, and I do NOT advocate for others to "DIY" on this. It's very tricky to learn, and very dangerous if done incorrectly!

I suppose the moral to the story is "Don't fear the botox!" and "Go to a DOCTOR, not a 'quickie' place to save money." If you have the medical training in your background, then maybe learn to do your own...? But whatever you do, never say never, because the results are AMAZING. People are mistaking me for early 20's now, and I most certainly am NOT. I think the biggest shock to my system was when someone mistook my 16-year-old daughter for my sister. GET.OUT. REALLY? Really. I use a technique that leaves me a little natural movement, and it gives me what's known as a "chemical brow lift"; I feel a million times better! Best thing I ever did for myself, I swear.
