One product I will never be without - Paula's Choice 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Liquid

My skin is far from perfect. Im prone to breakouts around my chin area, Im prone to Milia and I have open  and clogged pores and under the skin bumps. I've been looking for a product for a while now that I can use daily to target my problem areas and which would also fit into my routine, without having to change any of my current products. After reading many rave reviews about Paula's Choice 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Liquid, I decided it was a product I wanted to try.

The product is a clear liquid which when applied works to effectively exfoliate the skin and diminish blackheads and blemishes. It contains with 2% salicylic acid (BHA) which is an essential step for battling blemishes or clogged pores and also a blend of plant oils, antioxidants, anti-irritants, and water-binding agents. It also has a pH of 3.4 which is optimal for effective exfoliation.

As its a liquid it works by not only exfoliating the skin's surface but also sinks into the skin and exfoliates deep down inside the pore lining, where clogged pores occur.

It can be used in a few ways, either by applying the liquid directly to your hands and applying to the face or by applying the liquid to a cotton wool pad and swiping over the face after cleansing. Basically using it like a toner.

It is recommended that first time users use the lotion once a day preferably at night, so the skin can get used to the product and prevent skin flaking or irritation etc. Which is what I have been doing for the past couple of weeks. I don't feel the need to up usage to twice daily just yet as Im satisfied with the results I am seeing by just using the product once a day. The website explains that the frequency of use for this BHA product completely depends on how your skin reacts so you may have to experiment until you find what works best for you. If redness, dryness, or irritation occurs, adjust frequency of application. I think after another month or so I may up usage to twice daily.

As I have read a lot of this product and read many reviews, I wasn't shocked when I first applied the product and it did sting slightly on the skin. I was expecting this, but I didn't know how my skin would react so basically it was just a case of waiting till morning to see if it had caused any irritations to my skin. Thankfully, It didn't. After the first few days of using the product, I did gain quite a few extra spots, but this is due to the product really cleaning deep down inside the layers of my skin and bringing out all the nasties from my pores. The breakout didn't last long though, as using the liquid works with any existing spots anyway. Its been two weeks or maybe just over that I have been using the product for now, every single night without fail and I am definitely seeing the benefits. I apply the liquid after cleansing and use it in place of a toner. I think using it with a cotton wool pad distributes just the right amount of product and I don't have to wait too long before applying my moisturiser. As I said earlier I have only been using the product for around 2 weeks, but I am so pleased with the results and I am confident that I will see greater improvements. My pores seem less apparent as do the blackheads on my nose, my skin is now spot free and the bumps under my skin have really reduced, the lotion seems to be breaking these down. The whole texture of my skin seems to have improved and Ive also noticed that scars I have seem to be fading. It really is a fantastic product and it will be a permanent product in my routine. Im actually quite excited to see how my skin looks in a few more weeks.

I definitely recommend this product if you have blemish prone skin, clogged pores, blackheads etc. It is also supposed to work really well for Rosacea. I really don't think this brand is known about as much in the UK, as it is in the USA, where it is raved about. I definitly want to try more products from the range especially from the RESIST Anti Aging range

One thing that needs to be remembered when using a BHA product is to make sure you use a sunscreen during the day.

It is worth noting though that if you are allergic to aspirin, then you should avoid this product.

Available to purchase from Paulas Choice UK priced at £19.95. Samples can also be ordered from the UK website.

I had a few samples of this and it worked wonders on my similar skin. I love how quickly it seems to work as well. I want a big bottle but hate paying P&P lol xx

This stuff is magic, but I can only use it for a couple of months at a time - it seems to start drying me out if I use it continuously.

I use the RESIST moisturiser at night and I really like it. My skin is always really soft the next morning.

Its brilliant also for rough, cracked heels. Rub it over and then apply a moisturizer. You will notice the difference in texture in a few days.
