Today's Lips and Nails - Accessorize and Orly

Well I did say I wanted to introduce more colour into my life, so today Ive gone for some pretty bold Lips. Totally out of my comfort zone, but I really love this colour. Im not quite sure if the whole look suits me yet, hence no full FOTD, as Ive got gone near enough bare on the eyes to leave the focus on my Lips. I guess I just need to get used to the focus being on my Lips rather than on my eyes.

Accessorize Lipstick in Shade 7 - Velvet Pink

Today's nails are a shade that Ive really fell in love with - Orly Sapphire Silk.

Part of the Spring 2011 Precious, Sapphire Silk is a gorgeous shade of blue. I don't have too many blue polishes in my collection, well apart from Pastel Blues so this is really something different for me and I really do love it. Ive had many compliments on my nails each time I've wore this, which has been near enough constantly since my lovely friend Farrah sent it me.

What do you have on your Lips and Nails today?

Week 3 of the Help: a Heart, Nominate your Hero campaign – get your entries in!

This week is the start of National Heart Month, so there is no better time to look after the hearts of the ones you love and nominate someone special in your life for the Help: a Heart, Nominate your Hero campaign.

Remember, each week the most compelling entry will win an exclusive Healthy Heart Warming Hamper, which will be delivered to the person they have nominated as their hero with a personalized note saying ‘you’re my hero’

Why not take two minutes out of your day and nominate your own everyday hero in your life - the person that regularly performs acts of kindness that perhaps get taken for granted – and give your reasons why that person is special.

The winner from week 2 was Nicolla Bishop (via website), who nominated her friend and work colleague.

Nicolla’s hero nomination statement: “I nominate my friend and work colleague Nicki. We work with people with dementia and absolutely love it despite its challenges. Nicki is someone that always goes above and beyond. She spends a lot of her own time taking people with dementia out and running fabulous activities for them-like baking classes. She’s a single mum and has a lot of problems in her personal life but never fails to make everyone else happy.”

To nominate your hero (Stating who your hero is, their relationship to you and why they are your hero) simply:

• Leave a comment on the dedicated campaign blog at www.workswithwater.co.uk/HelpaHeart

• Email your nomination to HelpaHeart@workswithwater.co.uk

• Tweet your nomination on Twitter at www.twitter.com/HelpaHeart, using the hash tag #HelpaHeart in your tweet

• Write on their Facebook wall at http://www.facebook.com/HelpaHeart

You can keep up to date and follow the progress of the campaign at:

Jimmy Choo Eau De Perfume

Jimmy Choo EDP is the debut fragrance of the luxury and very expensive shoe brand and a scent that I knew would be added to my collection, as soon as I saw the promo images. For me, this is probably the only time I will have the pleasure to own a Jimmy Choo Item and being the perfume junkie that I am, Im happy to have it in my collection.

The scent was created by the label's founder, Tamara Mellon and is said to be a fragrance inspired by modern women, which expresses an aura of strength and beauty. A scent for a woman that is glamorous in attitude, confident, intelligent and with a sense of fashion and fun. The creation of the scent was down to  perfumer Olivier Polge.

The first thing that caught my attention, is how similar the bottle is to that of Victor and Rolf's Flowerbomb. Although quite similar in appearance, Jimmy Choo EDP is housed in a more thick, heavy, solid orb shaped bottle. Pink in colour with a sophiticated and stylish squared black lid.

Upon first spray, I was again greeted by a likeness to Victor and Rolf's Flowerbomb. A very sweet and sexy scent. If you are a fan of Flowerbomb, then I have no doubts that you will probably fall in love with this fragrance. For me, its packs a punch from the first spray. I like my perfumes strong and powerful and this fits into that category with ease. Where sweet smelling scents are concerned, I do think you have to be careful as they can come across a little bit too overpowering. This is not the case with this scent. Its hard for me to describe but the perfume has much more to it than it just being a sweet smelling candy perfume. It smells expensive and mysterious, it smells like you have really put some effort into the scent you chose to wear. Its full of femininity and fits a fashionable, stylish and confident woman, who has a subtle hint of sexiness about her, a mysterious streak that you want to know more about. A scent that will have people leaning in and asking what you are wearing.

Its definitely a scent that I would only wear of an evening. Dressed up for the kill, full of confidence and just wishing I had a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes on my feet to match.

Available from Escentual.com priced at £39.00 for 30ml. Its also worth pointing out that Escentual are currently offering free gift wrap and messaging for Valentines day, so if you're hoping your other half gets you the perfect present for Valentines day, you could always drop the hint about Escentuals offer, in a nice subtle way of course ;)

First Impressions - Maybelline The Eraser Anti-Age Foundation and The Smoother Skin Retexturising Primer

When I first heard about the release of these two new products from Maybelline, I was instantly Interested. They are both aimed at slightly older women and as Im no teeny bopper anymore, they both really appealed to me. Its also really nice to see High Street brands jumping on the primer bandwagon and introducing nice, affordable primers in their range.

The Smoother Skin Retexturising Primer

The Smoother claims to retexturize skin, creating a perfectly smooth, visibly transformed complexion. The gel formula claims to instantly lift and diminishes the look of pores and retexturize the skin’s surface for the smoothest looking complexion.

If Im honest, I hardly ever use a primer under my make up. I do have a few primers, but sometimes it just seems like an unnecessary step which doesn't really offer any huge benefits. Although I do have a few visible pores, mainly on my forehead, then are not that noticeable and don't cause me much of a problem.

The Smoother is a silicone primer which are known to be the preferred primer for filling in pores. I find its quite similar to GOSH primer, which is also a silicone primer and I have also read its similar to Smashbox's primer, although I haven't tried that to be able to compare.

The first thing that I noticed was how tiny the jar is. It really doesn't hold a lot of product, but once you realise that you don't need a lot of product to show some positive results, then the size of the jar stops being a problem.

I havent really be able to test this out properly yet, as my skins a bit hormonal at the moment, so I don't really want to be adding extra products when I don't need to.  I have only applied it on my hand as of yet, to just get a feel of the texture etc, but once my skin gets a little better, I will start to use it and post an update of what I think.

The Eraser Anti-Age Foundation

The foundation claims to Instantly erase fine lines, creases and age spots and also the Super-Concentrated formula with Collagen claims to tightens & improves skin elasticity. With an SPF of 18, it also helps to prevent Sun damage. It is also the first anti-ageing makeup containing a patented Micro-Corrector Applicator.

There are six shades to choose from, with the lightest shade Ivory being the one I have.

I have a few other Maybelline foundations in the shade Ivory and they are all a perfect match for me shade wise, so I was a bit concerned when I first came to use the Eraser and it was significantly darker than my other foundations.
Never one to be put off, I still applied it (on a day I wasn't leaving the house, just in case I looked like an oompa loompa). The applicator is really soft on the face and it makes it super easy to blend. I normally blend with my fingers, but the applicator did a good enough job on its own. Although I thought the foundation was too dark at first, it did seems to blend into my skin pretty well. Sadly though its still not a perfect match and I do think it is a little too dark for me, which is a disappointment, as I do really like the foundation.

I would say its a light to medium coverage and I did need to use concealer on my blemishes, which for me was a little bit of a let down and I did think it would be a more fuller coverage going by the name "eraser". Then again though, I still use a little concealer even with my full coverage foundations. It feels extremely light on the skin and the finish is really impressive, leaving my face looking smooth, bright and dewy. The only downside for me, is the shade range. I just wish Ivory was a little bit lighter and more like Maybellines other Ivory foundations.

Both products can be purchased from Feel Unique who offer Free worldwide delivery on all orders.

I will post in a few days with an update on the primer.

Adding a bit of bling with Andrea Fulerton Crystal Gemstones

I like a bit of bling on my nails. Not too much, just the nail on my ring finger for example. Just a little something to make my mani less boring. I've dabbled with nail gems in the past, cheap ones bought from ebay. They lasted two minutes. Throughout the day, I would notice I was one down, then 3 down, then left with nothing. Not good considering Im no expert when it comes to nail art and it takes me ages just to add a few little gems, just to end up seeing them come off one by one.

as the best I have come across so far.

They are the perfect size, not too big and not too small. They come with an applicator making them easy to pick up and position on the nails and best of all.. they last! I didn't look at my nails half an hour later and notice I was already one down.

Priced at £7.99 and available from Superdrug.

Do you like a bit of bling on your nails?

Boots 17 Photo Flawless Eye Pencil In Black/Blue for Blue Eyes

Released as part of the Spring 2011 Photo Flawless Collection, the Photo Flawless Eye Pencils are intense black with a twist of pearlescent colour. There is three shades available which are:

Black/Blue - For Blue Eyes
Black/Gold - For Brown Eyes
Black/Green - For Green Eyes

I currently have the Black/Blue one and absolutely love it!
My eyes are a very dark blue colour and when the pencil is added to my waterline, it compliments my eye colour so well. Its a really gorgeous shade and so soft to apply. I really cannot fault it in any way.

I definitely intend to pick up the other two shades, regardless of my eye colour.

Available from Boots priced at £3.99

My night at the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour

Last night me and Gareth headed to Liverpool Echo Arena to watch Strictly Come Dancing Live. I was offered tickets earlier on in the week, so I jumped at the chance to go. Me and Gareth don't get many nights out together, so I got my baby sitter sorted (my mum) and we was all good. I put my camera in my bag earlier on in the day, so I couldn't forget it and was all prepared (or so I thought).

The show was amazing! and was exactly like you see it on the TV. The stars looked stunning, the dresses, the make up and especially the tans!

This year Sienna X, the professional spray tan brand, complimented the glitz, glamour and garlands as ‘The Official Tanning Supplier to the Strictly Come Dancing Live tour’ and believe me when I say, them celebrities looked HOT! The tans were absolutely perfect and the women were shimmery and sparkling under the lights. Which I assume was due to Sienna X Extra sparkle Gold/Silver Shimmer Spray.

As I said earlier, I was all prepared with my camera and ready to take some pictures of the night. Zoe Ball was the presenter and came on looking stunning in a gorgeous full length black sparkling gown. "I need pictures of that dress" I said to Gareth, so I fiddled around in my tip of a bag for 5 minutes, eventually found my camera, switched it on, only to find I hadn't brought my memory card, it was still in my laptop at home! I was gutted, completely gutted. I then remembered I can take about 5 pictures without my memory card, so I managed to snap a few, thankfully!

I had a truly amazing night and Gareth made it even more perfect by taking me for a meal afterwards. My favourite dance of the night from from Olympic Athlete Colin Jackson, damn that guy can move his hips!

I have very kindly been sent some Sienna X products too, to help me re-create the Strictly Tan, so keep a look out for my review coming soon!

I'd like to say a special thank you to Dionne, for providing me with our tickets. Myself and Gareth had a fantastic night. A much needed night out together.

Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser and Gentle Eye Make Up Remover

Ever since trying Avenes Thermal Water Spray and being really impressed, Ive been wanting to try more products from the brand. My skin has been quite sensitive lately and Ive been breaking out around my chin area a lot more than normal. Ive found some of my current cleansers have been irritating the area slightly and really not helping the situation.

Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser is aimed towards people with sensitive skin. It claims to gently and thoroughly removes impurities and make-up without drying and also moisturise skin while providing anti-oxidant protection leaving skin soft, supple and smooth.

This is the first time using a gel cleanser so the texture is very different from what Im used to. Its quite thick and is a peachy colour with tiny orange micro particles in it which are enriched with vitamin E.

To apply it feels very fresh and cooling. Once I start massaging it penetrates my skin immediately and begins to break up my make up. I haven't used it on my eyes, so I cannot comment how it fairs against heavy eye make up, but its removes my foundation, concealer and blush with complete ease. I find its best to massage in the skin with slightly damp finger tips, to make sure its really working the skin and to break up the tiny micro particles, then remove with a warm muslin cloth and finish by completely rinsing my face. It is as its described and is very gentle. It doesn't aggravate any existing breakouts and seems to really calm my skin and in particular my breakout area, leaving my whole face very soft and supple with no tightness at all and completely cleansed, without stripping the skin.

If you suffer with senstitive skin or the occasional breakout like myself, then I definitely recommend trying this cleanser. I find it really soothing and calming for my skin and ideal to use when my skin is being stupidly hormonal and basically acting like its a teenager.

Avene Gentle Eye Make Up Remover

Ever since I started wearing monthly contact lenses, I need to be a bit more weary about what I use on my eyes to remove my make up. If Ive not got my contacts in, my eyes are fine and not sensitive, but when they are in and Ive removing eye make up with them still in, they can become really sensitive.

Avenes Gentle Eye Make Up Remover is specially formulated with sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. Its rich in Rich in Avene thermal spring water to soothe and soften and formulated with the same pH as the eye. It also contains Sorbitol which provides hydration.

Again this is different from previous eye make up removers Ive used, in the fact that its gel like and thick. When applied to a cotton wool pad, it doesn't sink in, it just stays resting on top of the cotton wool pad, as the image below shows.

I fins its best to fold the cotton wool pad in half and press firmly, to ensure the pad has soaked up the product. I then simply place a soaked pad on each eye, press firmly and massage a little to break up the make up, then swipe away. Its very very gentle and refreshing to use and I can open my eyes with ease, without any stinging or irritation. It removes most of my eye make up with the first swipe, however I do need to go over both eyes again, just to be sure all traces of make is removed. As the consistency of the product is pretty thick, it feels quite luxurious to use and feels really nice once the pads are pressed on my eyes. It seems to sooth my tired and aching eyes, as well as removing my make up. It doesn't leave any residue behind, or leave my eyes area sticky etc after use.

As far as eye make up removers go, its one of the best Ive tried. I wouldn't say its the best at removing eye make up quickly, as like I said I do need to go over the eye area again, but then again I do wear really heavy eye make up. I just love the way its feels once on my eyes, so soft, cooling and refreshing. If you're looking for a new eye make up remover, then I definitely recommend.

Both products can be purchased from Escentual with the Cleanser priced at £11.04 and the Eye Make Up Remover priced at £9.50.

Have you tried any Avene products?

CultGD Lip Colour

CultGD is an amazing new unisex Cosmetics and Skincare brand created by British Make Up Artist Jayne Lyons. Jayne spotted a gap in the market for an innovative new beauty brand and describes CultGD as "a unique, stylish, beauty concept and a lifestyle brand that crosses the boundaries of makeup, bath and skincare". If bright and unique make up is your thing, then CultGD will be your new love because this brand has summer brights bursting at the seems.

I love a new beauty brand to explore, so I was thrilled when I was sent one of CultGD's Lipsticks (£8.90) to try out.

The black rubberised packaging is simple yet sleek. It doesn't look expensive but nor does it look cheap. Is looks what is it, which is affordable.

The shade I received is Dublin Kiss, a nude Mauve kind of colour. Its quite sheer to apply, but the colour builds up easily, resulting in a gorgeous shade.

I am actually surprised at how much I have fallen in love with this Lipstick. I never would have thought to try a mauve coloured Lipstick before, but the shade works really well with my skin tone and is really flattering. The texture is really light and it doesn't feel like I am wearing  a lipstick, to me it feels more like I am wearing a nice balm. It lasts well and is non drying. Its pretty much everything I look for in a Lipstick.

I definitely intend to try more products from the brand and currently have my eye on the Lip Duet, which is two colour Lipsticks, fused together. Two for the price of one!

All products can be purchased directly from the website, with free UK delivery offered on all orders.

Cosmetics a la carte Brow Ink

Filling in my brows is one job Im not keen on. I love applying my make up, love taking my time and making myself up, but I just find eyebrows to be a pain! They need constant maintenance, plus they need filling in every day. Im happy to go out of the house with no make up on, but there's no way I would go out without my eyebrows filled in and looking neat and tidy.

I was recently sent Cosmetics a la carte's new Brow Ink and have been using it daily. What I love about this product, is the fact that its not only so easy to use and perfect brows can literally be created in minutes, but the fact that its also semi permanent. When taking my make up off at night, I still wipe all over my brow area with cleanser, but my brows remain in place! They don't stay completely in place, the colour does fade a little bit, but the shape remains and they look filled in enough for me to do the school run in the morning and have some brows, without scaring the other children half to death. This also means it takes less time to do my brows every day. They just need a little top up and Im good to go.

The product itself looks just like a felt tip pen and features a flexible fibre tip head. This was all new to me as I normally either use a pencil or a brow kit to do my brows. This did worry me at first, as I imagined that my brows were going to look completely drawn on and too perfect (if you get what I mean) like I'd literally used a felt tip pen to draw them on. The results are nothing like I imagined though, the tint is the ink is really subtle, and the very fine tip of the pen makes it so easy to fill in the sparse areas of my brow resulting in a totally natural finish.

The brow ink is available in true to life neutral shades; Blonde, Taupe and Sable and can be purchased directly from the Cosmetics a la carte website priced at £22.00

Botox - Have you? Would you?

I have a fear of aging and always have done. Im definitely not one of them women that are going to age gracefully and let nature take its course, hence the reason I already spend a fortune on skincare products aimed at preventing the signs of aging. The thought of deep set wrinkles on my face makes me shudder. I don't live under a rock though, I know Im going to age, I know the wrinkles are going to appear but that doesn't mean I can do nothing about them, not when there's a treatment offering to temporarily reduce or eliminate frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet etc, which is Botox.

If you're not too familiar with Botox and what the procedure is etc, its basically a non surgical treatment that smooths line and wrinkles. The treatment is fast and effective, which results showing in 3-5 days. The effects then go on to last 3-5 months before a top up is needed. Giving just enough time to save up for another treatment!

I've always been interested in Botox and it is something I would like to try in the future. Hopefully all the potion and lotion I use will prevent me from needing it within the next few years, but it is a treatment and Im interested in and could see myself having. Although its not cheap with prices for Botox at The Hospital Group varying, depending on how many session are needed and what area of the face and how many injections it takes etc, but I personally think its worth it. Maybe some would say I am image conscious, but aging is really a fear that I have and if money permits in the future, then its definitely an area I will explore. There are a lot of before and after pictures on the net and they really do speak for themselves.

Image taken from and credited to http://antiagingtreatments.blogspot.com

So how do you feel about Botox? Have you had the procedure done previously? Would you consider having it done?

My eyes also love - Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask

Sometimes eyes just need a little pick me up - well mine do anyway. I've not been sleeping a lot lately, which is totally my own fault as Ive been reading way too much of a night and hardly getting any sleep. I hate the way a book just grips me and I cannot put it down. The lack of sleep has taken its toll on my eyes and Ive been a puffy mess lately, with the total lack of sleep showing.

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask is a perfect pick me up for tired, puffy, irritated eyes.

"You might be thinking, "Yeah, yeah - another eye mask. What''s the big deal?" Well, aside from the mask''s unbeatable brightening benefits, its ''eye''-tech packaging - exclusive to bliss - is a major breakthrough."

The box contains 4 individual packets of masks. Each packet contains an eye mask in one compartment and a liquid solution in the other. The compartments are air tight which keeps the pads and liquid in perfect condition, until ready to use. The masks are not just standard masks they are marine collagen masks which are infused with vitamins and minerals, which are then freeze-dried to lock them in.

The masks couldn't be easier to use, you simply press the side with the liquid in, until it pops. This then releases the liquid which completely soaks the eye masks so they are ready to use. You then peel back the film and pop a mask on each eye for 15 minutes and relax. Simple!

15 minutes later and all signs of puffiness has completely disappeared and my eyes look and feel so fresh and awake. The pads stay on too, so there's no need to lie down etc and do nothing while they're on, I just go about my daily activities and just hope no one knocks on my front door (that would be embarrassing). As the pads are completely soaked, the liquid does dribble down the face a little, but this is to be expected. I just have a piece of tissue with me to catch the dribbles. Once the pads are removed, there is no need to rinse. If you rinse, then you are just washing away the good ingredients in the liquid. It needs to be left to penetrate into the skin. Just follow with an eye cream after use.

As there's only 4 masks in a pack, they are not something that can be used regularly, they are more of a treatment for the eyes. A once a fortnight thing for example, to give the eyes some much needed pampering. The results are not temporary either. My eyes stay looking in good condition for a few days after using a mask. They are ideal for a special occasion, when you really want to make sure you look your best. I cannot fault these in any way. They are a nice little luxury and perfect for a bit of self pampering.

Available from Bliss online priced at £38.50 for a set of 4 masks.

My eyes love it - Elemis Pro-Intense Eye and Lip Contour Cream

I've tried a lot of eye creams in my time. In fact Im probably working my way through every single brand out there. Not because I haven't been happy, because I have come across some eye creams that have worked well for me and that I have seen positive results with. Its hard to stick to a certain one though or keep re-purchasing the same one, when there's so much more on offer, tempting me and waiting for me to get my grubby little mitts on them and give them a try.

I've fell in love, hook line and sinker with one at the moment and if it wasn't for the fact that I have two other eye creams waiting to be used, I would without a doubt be re-purchasing (money permitting, because this is not cheap!)

Elemis Pro-Intense Eye and Lip Contour Cream

"A rich textured cream containing active plant stem cells from Edelweiss that works with the skin's natural function at the 'dermal-epidermal junction' level to protect the shape of skin cells, tighten the collagen network and hydrate evenly throughout the day.

Over 71% of users assessed their skin to be visibly plumper, effective at filling out lines and left their skin looking more youthful"

I can now be added to that percentage of users because Ive been using this day and night since just after Christmas and my under eye area has never looked so good. I have very thin skin under my eyes and the main reason for me using an eye cream, apart from preventing aging around the eyes, is to help firm my under eye area. Like I said previously, I have used creams in the past that Ive been pleased with and have noticed a difference, but since using Elemis Pro-Intense, Ive noticed a huge difference.

The picture below is probably not going to show much, but to me it speaks a thousand words. I never thought I'd be comfortable showing my full under eye area on here. For the simple fact that for my age, I do think the skin underneath my eyes is too thin and I've always been slightly embarrassed. Plus when you add my dark circles into the mix as well, its just not a pretty sight. I took the picture below though about a week and half ago because Ive been so pleased with the results this cream has given me that I wanted to document it.

I do wish I had a taken a before picture, but at the time I didn't think to because I know what my under eye area looked like before, I have the misfortune of looking at it every day! I have the image firmly printed in my mind from years of looking at it and using creams to help firm it. Firming my under eye is not the only benefit I have experienced from this cream. Its also kept my under eye area full moisturised, and Ive noticed a big difference in my dark shadows.

As I said earlier, I have two other creams waiting to be used - Sarah Chapman Eye Recovery and Levere Relax Eye Care. Im hoping these two will continue to show me positive results, because if not I could find myself forking out over £50 for a re-purchase of Elemis Pro-Intense. Ouch!!!!
