The seasons are changing and
that means it’s time to change our skincare regime
As the leaves on the trees
turn a beautiful autumn caramel there’s nothing better than snuggling up in a
scarf and putting your new winter boots on. However, while we may secretly
admit we love this change of season – and the excuse for a new winter wardrobe
- our skin is less of a fan.
It’s not surprising really. As
the mercury plummets and we whack on the central heating, it’s our complexions that
tend to suffer the most. Changes in temperature, atmospheric conditions and
humidity can result in dry, flaky skin and leave it looking dull and dehydrated.
Fortunately, there are things we can do to limit the impact of these seasonal
stresses. Show your skin some love
this winter with these five simple seasonal steps:
1. Rehydrate
One of our skin’s key functions is to act as a
barrier. Part of this means holding on to the cells’ water supply, which helps
keep our complexions from drying out. But as temperatures slump this function
can become impaired, so it’s important to boost the skin’s hydration with the best day cream possible. Go for a richer
one than you would in summer for glowing, radiant skin.
2. Scrub up
If regular exfoliating isn’t part of your usual
skincare regime, now’s a good time to start. Sloughing off dead skin cells once
a week will stop your visage from looking dull and tired and help it maintain
that coveted fresh-faced look on even the greyest of days. Don’t forget to moisturise well afterwards.
3. Step up
Although it can be tempting to ditch your
morning runs for a warming mug of hot chocolate in the cooler months, it’s
important to keep up your exercise regime. This will help boost your blood
circulation, and, as long as you’re taking on enough fluid, will also help
create a gorgeous glow.
4. Beauty sleep
Now is not the time to neglect your nighttime
routine. Keep moisture levels topped and help skin replenish lost nutrients
from tough days by slathering on a night cream before bed. The best night creams will revive your complexion
and mean you wake up to super soft skin on the chilliest of mornings.
5. Protect your peepers
It’s all too easy to forget your eyes, but the
thin, delicate skin underneath them needs extra attention at this time of year
to keep it in top condition. Smear on the best under eye cream possible a
couple of times a day to help stop the skin flaking and becoming irritated.
Look for one that has a soothing action to help retain a bright eyed look on
dull days.
Does your routine change as the Winter Months approach?
